The Body Shop Does Vitamin C

in Acne-prone, Combination Skin, Dry Skin, Oily Skin, Skin on 08/18/13

Body Shop Vit CIt seems that everyone loves Vitamin C. It’s a skin-friendly antioxidant and the superstar of many anti-aging skincare formulas. I am one of the few people who can’t use Vitamin C because it makes my skin freak out. I know, I know, I’m a weirdo. I’m jealous of you Vitamin C groupies. I feel like the odd-man out – standing against the wall at the party because I don’t know how to dance.

ANYWHO! I know most people love Vitamin C, including my boyfriend, Gregg, so I had him test out The Body Shop‘s Vitamin C products for me. He loves the Vitamin C Energizing Face Spritz. He loves the fresh citrus scent, and the ease of getting camu camu berry (which has one of the highest concentrations of Vit C in the world) and aloe vera onto his face with minimal effort. What is it with guys and face spritzers? They love them! I’m going to start a line of skin care for men that consists of nothing but facial spritzers! Okay, not really. Feel free to steal my idea. But you owe me a drink.

Gregg loves the Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 because it means he doesn’t have to apply sunscreen separately from moisturizer. He’s always buying those drugstore sunscreens that clog pores (and usually aren’t cruelty free), so I’m happy he’s now addicted to this one! It’s got a mega dose of Vitamin C (from camu camu) and broad-spectrum UVA and UVB sun protection.

Last but not least is the Vitamin C Eye Reviver Duo. It looks like this product may have been discontinued, but if you find it in stores, it’s pretty sweet. The Revive Gel rollerball stimulates and refreshes the eye area. Open the other side to apply the Eye Radiance cream, which hydrates and revives delicate skin while providing UVA/UVB sunscreen protection.

I have the same issues with Vitamin C! So we can stand on the sidelines of the World Happiness Dance together, lol! 😉 Mega props if you get that reference.

I love that your man loves this line and the facial spritzer men’s line idea is genius! Jenius, I should say. 🙂

Wow, I’m not the only one with Vitamin C face stuff issues???!!! SQUEE!!! My theory is that I eat so much, my skin’s all “No, you don’t need it ON you, too” then gets all breaky-outy and red. I didn’t know about men liking face-spritzing products! Maybe that’ll get mine to use moisturizer instead of just complaining that his face is dry *rollmyeyes*

The Body Shop Vit C moisturizer is my favorite for daytime! I’ve repurchased it three times now, and I’ve got my mom and aunt hooked on it, too.

I have the eye reviver duo. I honestly don’t love it. However, I’m really wanting to try the spritz and the moisturizer. I’ve been looking for a new moisturizer with SPF, and this one might be a good option for me.

I totally need to try these! I love everything The Body Shop does and how can you go wrong with Vitamin C?

I use the Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer every day. Despite the SPF 30, it works better for me than any other moisturizer with SPF because it doesn’t increase my oil production. Love this product!

I’m interested about this product. Having a vitamin c is I think really effective and good for the skin. I am wondering if there’s an available body shop products in drug stores here.

The Vitamin C moisturizer is definitely a great product! I’d recommend it to anyone. I don’t know bout the eye reviver and spritz tho… But sounds like it’s worth a try 🙂

If Vitamin C makes your skin red and irritated, this could be due to using too much too fast. Or it could be due to the other compounds within the product (the fillers, not the vitamin C)

Try using less, and start every third day. As your skin builds tolerance you may be able to increase to every other day and eventually daily.

The other issue (with breakouts especially) is that many Vitamin C formulations and serums are oily. If you are prone to acne this can create an issue.

I prefer Vitamin C in capsule format (I love the Alyria Antioxidant Capsules) because Vitamin C is REALLY unstable and tends to break down almost immediately on contact with oxygen. Thus the best forms are encapsulated (like the Alyria) or in a dark glass bottle with a tight seal (and used within 3-6 months of opening). To make your vitamin c serum last longer – keep it in a cool dark place and a tightly sealed bottle (bathroom drawer perhaps).

I wonder how potent the spf with vitamin C really is. Its not the SPF I’m concerned about, but rather, whether the vitamin C would be potent in this cream format. Vitamin C is not usually very stable or potent in a cream/lotion format.

There are several forms of vitamin C that can be added to creams/lotions and serums. Of course, the most potent one is the least stable. Bottom Line – get vitamin C in a capsule serum or a dark glass bottle and use it up quickly – or it will just be a fancy expensive liquid without the benefits you are seeking.
