Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick Review and Swatches

Surely by now you’ve heard about the excitement over the new line of Vice Liquid Lipstick from Urban Decay! There are 30 shades – most from the regular Vice line and some limited edition shades that are being brought back. All are long-wearing and waterproof – in two formulas, comfort matte and mettalized.

Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick Swatches and Review!

The idea behind these is that they are SUPER long wearing (YES!) and non-drying (WELL…okay less drying than other waterproof liquid lipsticks, but still drying). I’ve never tried a longwear that ISN’T drying – I don’t think it’s possible. That being said, my lips are more sensitive, and tend to dry out more quickly than some of my friends and fellow bloggers.

How to apply? The flocked applicator has a flat side, which makes it easy to get into the corners of your lips. When you’re working with longwear lippies, you really want to get a precise line. If you make a mistake, you have a few seconds to fix it before it dries. You can start by lining your lips, and then filling in. Try not to go over the same area more than once. One coat is all you need, but if you really want to turn up the heat, try two coats (let dry between coats). The key is to NOT press your lips together or rub until each coat is dry. If you’re like me and get dry lips easily, top with a clear gloss.

I’m really loving these shades, and I wanted to share swatches with you so you can see how they look!

Crank – Bright Pinky Purple Comfort Matte (the bottle is deceivingly purple, but my swatch also looks a little too pink! It is somewhere in between the two.)

Firebird –  Pink-toned Purple With a Hint of Blue Glitter Comfort Matte

Mad – Glittery Purple Metallized

Pandemonium – Dark Purple Comfort Matte

Twitch – Light Purple Comfort Matte

Some have said the shades are streaky. I haven’t found that to be the case in most of the vice liquid lipstick I have swatched for you here. Big Bang and is thinner, and slightly streaky, but I think it is meant to be more sheer – or you can use it as a shimmery topper (it’s a Metallized formula).

Emma Leigh found a few of her shades to be streaky and thin, in particular Mad and Firebird. However, doing 2 coats solves this issue.

One of my favorites is ZZ, which looks a lot darker on me in indoor lighting. Here’s a swatch with my ringlight (which looks lighter – and much more like it does in the tube), so you can see how it will most likely look on you if you have lighter lips (my lips are pretty pigmented already, which makes shades look darker in natural light).

I also really love Flame, an orange with tons of glitter. I loved it so much that it was hiding in my purse when I went to take arm swatches, so now it gets it’s very own arm swatch and lip swatch (haha):

Emma Leigh’s favorite is Trivial, which is a super unique metallic nudey pink. She loves how, unlike many metallic liquid lipsticks, this one actually dries down matte and is long-wearing!

Pretty shades but OMG SUPER SUPER drying and cakey on my lips, and I had moisturized them before I applied Kinky Comfort Matte. So disappointed! Didn’t survive beyond 15 minutes. 🙁
