My passion for lip products took a wild turn last season after I counted a total of 17 lip products in my purse at one time. Since then, I’ve narrowed my obsession down to only a few select cruelty free lip balms & glosses that I find “purse worthy” enough to carry with me wherever I go.
MY FAVORITE CRUELTY FREE LIP BALMS & GLOSSES
If you are a lip balm addict like me, you know what it’s like to always feel the need to re-apply throughout the day. The reason I love Burt’s Bee’s Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil is because it doesn’t have a waxy feel on my lips like other lip balms. Since it’s made with natural ingredients such as sunflower & coconut oil, this product actually moisturizes my lips instead of just sitting on top of them and I don’t have to re-apply as often. Compared to Burt’s Bee’s Beeswax Lip Balm, this one is silkier and has a reddish hue but still goes on clear. (Retails for $2.99 at Drugstore.com)
The next product I always carry with me is Smith’s Rosebud Salve. This pink little pot of gloss smells of just that… roses! I always feel so pretty dabbing it on my lips. It’s great if you want a little more gloss than just a lip balm and can also be worn over your favorite lipstick for added shine. It’s another favorite because of it’s slick, smooth texture that never feels sticky on my lips. Rosebud Perfume Company also carries other cruelty-free flavors such as their Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm and Strawberry Lip Balm. The tins are so adorable with vintage designs on the lids and retail between $6-$7 each at Sephora.

I’m currently searching for a cruelty-free replacement for a favorite lip gloss of mine, Clarins “Raspberry” Gloss Prodige.
I bought [and fell in love with] it a few years back, when I thought Clarins was cruelty-free.
After I found out differently, Clarins went abruptly to the “no-buy” list.
So far, I’ve looked at Juice Beauty, Bite Beauty, Ecco Bella, Gabriel/Zuzu Luxe, Too Faced, Illamasqua, 100% Pure, Jane Iredale, and others, but most of them tend to offer “earthy” muted warm neutrals that just don’t work with my coloring.
Sometimes, being a “bleeding heart” is complicated …
Burt’s Bees is owned by Clorox, and they test on animals, won’t buy it anymore
On what grounds is Smith’s no longer cruelty free?
I can’t find any evidence of it being sold in China.
Is it a parent company issue? :/
While Burt”s Bees parent company tests on animals Burt’s Bees products are not. Parent company doesn’t always dictate policy of brands it has bought out 🙂
