Toms of Maine Review

Tom’s of Maine Cruelty Free Toothpaste and Body Products

Tom’s of Maine has been around since the ’70s. Originally known for their toothpaste, they have expanded into an array of personal care products. They don’t use animal ingredients, artificial colors, artificial preservatives, artificial fragrances/colors, and you can choose fluoride or non-fluoride toothpaste. Although the company was acquired by Colgate some time ago, the brand remains loyal to its cruelty free roots. Being under the Colgate umbrella means they are able to reach more people than they could previously. That’s why Tom’s of Maine has become a mainstream brand – once found only in health food stores (where I worked in high school and college) and now in drugstores across the country. They are also doing so much to give back to communities across the US. You can be a virtual volunteer and help build a park in Detroit with just a tweet or Facebook post here!

I have enjoyed Tom’s of Maine for many years. I thought you’d enjoy this review by one of my young (19 years young!) male writers who is new to the brand, and definitely not alive when the company was started! Actually, neither was I, but I have 15 years on him! 🙂

On the hunt for whitening toothpaste that doesn’t feel like fire when brushing your teeth? Well try out Tom’s Of Maine Antiplaque & Whitening Peppermint Toothpaste! I’m not a newbie when it comes to teeth whitening toothpastes; I’ve been around the toothpaste aisle a few times in my day. I liked this toothpaste more than other brands for two reasons. For one, the taste was normal! I usually don’t like peppermint flavors but this had just a touch of peppermint. I felt like I had gentle, fresh breath after using it. The second reason is that the toothpaste didn’t burn my skin or my mouth upon contact. I know that might sound weird, but when I use other products, it feels like the skin inside my mouth is being burned away. I also tried the kid friendly version, just to see the difference. It basically tastes like light mint. It’s fluoride-free, which many parents appreciate. It’s like a total win for both parents and children!

The next thing I tried was Tom’s of Maine Natural Care Deodorant. I was a little skeptical about it but, it totally smelled great! I don’t know how to describe it, but it smelled like a refreshing flower that just bloomed. However, it didn’t last long. Maybe it’s because I sweat a lot or whatever but I found myself needing to reapply after two hours. I feel like this would really work for women or people that don’t sweat a lot.

The last product I used was the Daily Moisture Soap. I loved how this felt on my skin. When using other soap products, I sometimes feel my skin gets taut and dry. This soap was moisturizing, but not oily. It also has Vitamin E, which I’ve noticed goes really well my sensitive skin. It really made my skin soft and lasted for a while after the shower!

As a whole, I really liked these products. I definitely felt a difference when using these products made without harsh chemicals. If you are looking for something that is made with natural, sustainable and cruelty-free ingredients, look no further! Tom’s of Maine is your answer!

I’ve tried Tom’s of Maine a while ago when I found their toothpaste at Big Lots. It’s different then the one pictured. I’ve always been interested in their deodorant but after reading your review on it, I’m definitely going to have to skip it unfortunately, especially with living in Florida

The deodorant is just that, a deodorant. It is not an anti-perspirant, which is what keeps you from getting wet under your arms. Deodorant is just to reduce or eliminate the smell. Tom’s of Maine Deodorant has removed the aluminum, which is what is bad for you.

Great article, but in terms of people seeking cruelty-free products, as you say – they are partnered with Colgate-Palmolive Company. I personally do not consider products as cruelty free if the profits from those purchases support partner/parent companies that do carry out cruel and unnecessary tests. such as shame such awesome companies sell out to the bad guys! x
