Stuff I’m Not Supposed to Talk About

in Budget, Misc on 12/16/09

There are certain things good little girls and boys don’t talk about. Well, I’ve never been good, so I am not ashamed to talk about them! If you want to buy only cruelty-free products, why would you stop at lipstick and face cream? Why not maxi pads and personal lubricants?

Let’s start with maxi pads and tampons. Did you know that Tampax is owned by Proctor & Gamble, one of the main animal testing culprits out there? Why support a company like that when you can buy cute pads and tampons from a company like Moxie? They make ultra thin panty liners and pads. They use the same amount of absorbent material as the other brands, but they compress it, so it’s thinner and less intrusive. They also come with hygienic (and adorable) little tins so you can keep your girly items hidden in your purse. Their tampons are coated so they are super easy to insert.

Let’s move on to personal lubricants. I tried a lube called Naked by Joi Organic Intimacy. It’s a great water-based lube – safe with latex condoms and silicone toys. Naked has no artificial flavors or scents. It’s made with organic ingredients, has no parabens or glycol and it doesn’t stain. It’s made by a woman and is 100% vegan, and of course not tested on animals. What more could you ask for?

I also have to tell you about a brand I found called Good Clean Love. They have a line of organic personal lubricants, pleasure butters, passion candles and love oils for sexual enhancement. I love their Almost Naked lube because I love the fact that it is: cruelty-free (of course), has no petrochemicals or parabens and has 95% organic ingredients.

I have to tell you that if these products didn’t irritate MY skin, it is HIGHLY likely it won’t irritate yours either, because I am a sensitive gal. Like any water-based lubes, they don’t last all that long, so you have to keep applying.

I never thought about trying another brand of maxi pads. I've been a loyal fan of Tampax tampons and Always maxi pads for over 15 years now. I don't like animal cruelty when it comes to makeup and such, but never thought about P&G owning other products as well… Thank you for suggesting an alternate brand for personal products. I'd definitely be interesting in reading your review of eco-friendly pads and tampons in the future!

    Thanks for posting!!

The only problem I have with Moxie is they are made in China. Given the history of the recall on products fron China, that makes me slightly uncomfortable. I like Natracare.

If you do not have an issue with touching your vagina directly, I recomend using O.B. Tampons. They do not test on animals.

Thanks for posting! I’m trying to figure out if these products are actually tested on animals or are they just owned by companies that test on animals… thanks!

I don’t know if I will get a response its been awhile since anyone posted.I have a question does Kimberly-Clark test on animals they sell the kotex brand I haven’t heard yay or nay on it.I want to eliminate all products that test on animals so I need to find out where and whom to buy from concerning feminine products that help out women that are pre-menopausal.due to irregular periods.

Are you sure they are cruelty free? Every item sold in China has mandatory animal testing requirements, plus no where on their website does it say cruelty free, the brand is also not in PETA.

Hi Gabriela, when I wrote this post in 2009, these brands were cruelty free. I don’t use PETA as a source as I find they are not always on the same page. Which items here are sold in China? If they are no longer cruelty free, I’ll update this post.

I’m about 90% sure o.b. does test on animals. It’s super unfortunate because of how inexpensive they are.
