Organic Vegan Coconut Hot Oil Hair Mask
With the proliferation of these Instagram girls with crazy long, healthy hair (you know most of those are extensions right?), everyone wants thicker, stronger, longer, healthier hair. St. Tropica is a natural, organic, cruelty free, vegan brand that I’ve recently been introduced to. They sell their famous Organic Coconut Hot Oil Hair Masks, which I recently tested out. First of all, I think we all know how amazing coconut oil is for your hair. It helps to reduce protein loss (via ingredients – lauric acid and Vit E) and it has a molecular structure that allows to actually penetrate hair (not just sit on top like some oils do). Coconut oil has been used for centuries to moisturize hair, skin, nails, and to be taken internally for many health benefits.
Coconut oil hot oil hair masks are obviously great for your hair. So why buy a St. Tropica coconut hair mask instead of a bottle of coconut oil from your local health food store? Well, I certainly recommend having both on hand, but here’s why I like St. Tropica specifically for my hair. First, it’s got an arsenal of other hair strengthening, volumizing and healing ingredients: horsetail herb, biotin, amla, coconut butter, green tea and hibiscus (all ingredients are organic).
Secondly, it is USDA Organic certified, made in the USA, cruelty free (not sold in China, listed with PETA and Leaping Bunny certified!), vegan (no animal ingredients), and it doesn’t contain: chemicals, sulfates or parabens. You can feel good about putting this oil on your head! Plus, it’s safe for color treated hair. Men are using it and loving it too!
I also love that it comes in BPA-free pouches, that can be heated up in the microwave (start with 20 seconds and increase by 10 seconds each time – I think it t0ok me about 30 or so), or you can heat with a kettle. There is plenty of product in the pouch to drench every bit of my hair in the oils. The company recommends using the entire packet, regardless of hair length, but if you have very short hair, you could probably get two uses out of one pouch.
The pouches are reasonably priced. You can get one for $5 – or get a 6 or 12 pack to save up to $1 on each. The pouches are also travel-friendly, unlike a glass jar of coconut oil!
How to use: Heat the pouch and distribute over dry hair. Put your hair up in an old towel (or heated towel), t-shirt, plastic wrap or shower cap. Leave it on for about 20 minutes. Shampoo twice to get all of the oil out (otherwise it could leave you with greasy strands). Condition your hair as you normally would.
When I was applying, I was impressed with how slippery the oil was and how there was enough in the packet to drench all of my hair. I’ve always found it to be slightly more difficult to apply regular coconut oil – especially when it comes in a non-microwavable container. After shampooing twice and applying a light conditioner, my hair felt stronger, thicker and more healthy. I feel that with continued use, this product can help to prevent split ends, and grow more baby hair, with the end result being MORE hair and HEALTHIER, STRONGER hair! I’m also going to experiment with adding the coconut hair mask to the ends of my hair while I’m in the shower to get the added heat and steam benefit. The company recommends only using on dry hair for better penetration (oil and water repel each other), so I may experiment with both to see what works best for me.
Overall, I’m impressed with these coconut oil hair masks. I will continue to use them on a regular basis, along with regular trims from my hairstylist, in my quest for longer, thicker, healthier hair!

I’ve been using coconut oil for my skin and hair for years, I’ll have to tell my wife about this coconut oil hair mask, she will love it.
Coconut oil has been known to be good for the hair. What St. Tropica has done here is to add in other hair-friendly ingredients to the list.. and at $5 each, it ain’t that bad! Especially if the trade-off is healthy looking hair inside and out.

Definitely thinking of trying the hair mask. I have used regular coconut oil on my hair in the past, but it felt so greasy afterwards. I thought maybe I didn’t rinse good, but the same thing happened when I tried it a second time.
