Why I Support Small Business Saturday

in Misc on 11/17/12

small biz saturday

Saturday, November 24th falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and it also marks the third annual Small Business Saturday; a day to support local businesses around the country.

Why should you care? Well, most small to medium-sized beauty brands tend to be cruelty free. And, I like to support the brands who haven’t sold out (to large corporations or to the Chinese market) – like NYX and Urban Decay. Don’t get me wrong – I have nothing against corporations. Every large organization started out somewhere. But, I do have a problem with large corporations who put profits before compassion.

Also – I AM A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER! Yep – I keep this site alive and pay the bills by selling ads, and for those who don’t know, I am the founder of Top Tier Social Media, a social media management and consulting business. So, support peeps like me by commenting and sharing your favorite bloggers’ posts, visiting independently-owned salons and shops, and by purchasing indie cosmetics and beauty products! While you’re at it – why not give some extra retail-love to women and minority-owned businesses?

Small Business Saturday was founded in 2010 by American Express in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more customers. American Express provides support by generating awareness and action around shopping local for the entire day. So if you need a gift, a haircut, new shoes, a new concealer… Pick it up at a small biz! You can learn where to shop, and how to support local businesses in your area by visiting http://www.shopsmall.com.

I love supporting handmade cosmetic companies. Not only are the businesses small, but they’re often owned by women!

I support small businesses because they tend to have better customer service. I also like ‘Mom & Pop’ stores
