Sigma Makeup

in Makeup on 02/20/10

Have you tried MAC makeup brushes? Think they’re great? Well, they are good, but…in my experience, the bristles are always falling out all over my face – making it look like I have weird, wayward facial hair.

Well, I tried the Sigma Makeup professional eye kit. I love these brushes! You get 7 brushes for $39.99, which is a really great price – much cheaper than MAC. They are well-made, they don’t fall apart, and they have nice, long handles. I feel like an artist when I use them.

You get a mix of natural (cruelty-free) and synthetic bristles. The kit comes with a medium angled shading brush, a small angled brush (good for brows), a large shader brush, a pencil brush (good for precision), a tapered blending brush (I use this one for my all-over pinky-gold sparkely color from Urban Decay), an eyeliner brush (try dipping it in water and then using with your favorite eyeshadow for a pseudo-liquid liner look) and an eye shading brush.

Sigma Eyeshadow

I also tried the Sigma Makeup Beauty on the Go Neutral Shades kit. When this kit came in the mail, I felt like a kid on Christmas Day! You get 4 individual eyeshadows that you can place into the palette that comes with the kit. If you buy more kits, you can mix and match to create your perfect look. The kit comes with Angie (neutral pink sparkle), Brown Eyed Girl (a dark brown-black), Brown Sugar (a shimmery brown) and Indian Girl (smoky neutral gray).

You can also get smokey eye colors, fun colors and a blush/highlight kit. The kits are only $27 right now (a steal) and you get a free travel size brush. This is a pretty amazing deal. I’m not sure if this is an ongoing or sale price, but I would suggest snapping it up now!

    Hi there,

Love your site and cruelty-free cosmetics in general.

Not sure if natural hair on brushes made in China could really qualify as cruelty-free though. From what I've read, natural hair brushes are basically one step away from fur. I'd love to hear how you qualify these as cruelty-free. I hate to be cynical, but I'm doubtful.

I have been told that the hair is clipped, but the animals are not harmed. I'd be interested to see what you've read – can you send me info?

    Here are two sources:

Second, a fellow beauty blogger. I urge you to reconsider including natural hair bristles on your cruelty-free site. I agree with this blogger's notion that the idea of animals held captive in small cages in countries without animal welfare laws does not constitute the notion of cruelty-free.
