Schmidts Vegan Bar Soap and Holiday Deodorants

If you’re a cruelty free beauty lover, you’ve probably heard about Schmidt’s by now. Schmidt’s is a Leaping Bunny approved cruelty free brand that has been making cult favorite natural deodorants for a long time, and I would say they’ve even gone “mainstream”. I see lots of people raving about them – whether they’re in the vegan or cruelty free circles or not.

Schmidts Holiday Deodorant - Vegan and Cruelty Free

Natural deodorants take some getting used to. They don’t stop you from sweating (they don’t contain aluminum), but they do have ingredients to absorb odor and natural scents to keep you smelling fresh. Honestly I haven’t gotten used to them yet. I REALLY want to, but I haven’t been able to kick my antiperspirant habit. People tell me that if I go through a “detox” I’ll be able to stop using antiperspirants. I haven’t tried that for more than a few days, and it doesn’t really sound like something I’ll be doing anytime soon.

That being said, Gregg and I keep Schmidt’s deodorants around the house to use as touch-ups from time to time. Almost like armpit perfume, if you will! The Rose + Vanilla Schimdt’s deodorant is the best smelling deodorant I have EVER smelled, and I hope that someday I will become a complete natural deodorant convert. (Side note: I just saw that they have a Coconut Pineapple scent and now I know I have to buy that for Gregg!)

Their limited edition holiday deodorants are SO freaking cute! Gregg has been rocking the Holiday Spice, while Snow Day and Oh Christmas Tree are close behind. They come in regular and sensitive skin options, which is cool, and something you don’t see with mainstream deodorants.

Schmidts Natural Bar Soap

So while I’m not a complete natural deodorant fan yet, I am a HUGE fan of the newest release from Schimdt’s – new bar soaps! They are vegan, cruelty free and made without any bad stuff (no SLS, preservatives, artificial fragrances, PEG or phthalates). They lather up nicely (even without detergents), and they smell amazing. You get a nice big bar with rounded edges for a little over five bucks. I personally HATE square bar soaps – they don’t fit into the curves of your body, so you pretty much have to use them with a pouf or a washcloth, and I prefer to just use them as is.

I’m seriously ecstatic that they have made their Rose + Vanilla scent into a bar soap! If you like Lush Rose Jam, you’ll love this scent. It’s not overpowering, so even if you share your soap with your man, it’s not going to make him smell any less manly! Lavender + Sage is my second favorite – it’s got a relaxing spa quality to it. If you want a more earthy scent, try Bergamot + Lime, Cedarwood + Juniper or Ylang Ylang + Calendula.

Schmidt’s has a subscription program so you can sign up for your favorite products, and never run out again. When you subscribe, you get free US shipping. Pretty handy once you’ve found your faves! If you’d rather shop in-store, you can find Schmidt’s in grocery stores, Target, Sprouts, Lassen’s, Beauty Collection and even Urban Outfitters! There’s a store locator on their site if you have any trouble finding them.

Do you use Schmidt’s or another brand of natural deodorant? What is your take on the “detoxing” thing? I would love to hear your comments and learn from you – leave a comment below or hit me up on social!

Editor’s Note: It has just come to my attention that Schmidt’s was sold to Unilever today. Although still cruelty free and vegan, they are now owned by a parent company that tests on animals.

Vegan and cruelty free but owned by a non-cruelty-free parent company

I don’t think natural deodorants would suit my sweaty underarms, but I love bar soaps! Especially lavender-scented ones.

I have been using natural deodorants for years. In fact, my first deodorant as a teenager was the old school Burt’s Bees Honeysuckle Deodorant. Recently I have been using Lavanila the most.

I sweat too much for most natural deodorants. Florida is too hot and humid.

I’m so glad someone else is having trouble switching to natural deodorant. These scents sound awesome and the packaging is so cute!

None of the fragrances would work for me so I hope one day they make a fragrance free one. The packaging is so cute.

I always wondered what other brands there are out there, this is a good place to start for deodorants 🙂
