Product Review – Aloe Gentle Facial Wash by The Body Shop

in Combination Skin on 04/17/09

Okay, let me start by saying that I really wanted to like this product (Aloe Facial Wash – $16).

It was recommended by Paula Begoun in Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me – 7th Ed. This is supposedly for super sensitive skin (which I have), but it made my dry skin feel even more dry and tight and slightly red.

It contains sodium laureth sulfate (to create lather – a milder version of sodium laurel sulfate), which may have caused the irritation. I will, however, give it another shot as a body wash, since the rest of my body is not as ridiculously sensitive as my face.

I also used this cute little scrub brush ($3.00) that was a lot harsher on my skin once I got it wet.  Again, probably great for most people, but a little harsh for my skin.

Oh, and because I keep spending money at The Body Shop (I swear, I don’t work for them!), I got another free shower gel.  This time I got the cocoa butter shower gel.  Let me just say – it does NOT smell like cocoa butter – it smells a little chemical-ish to me – not great.  And, it is quite lacking in the moisturizing department.  It also contains sodium laureth sulfate, but doesn’t lather as much as you’d expect with that ingredient.
