NARS Pro Palette Review

Sad update – June 2017 – NARS is no longer cruelty free – the company has decided to sell in China, a country that requires animal testing. Click here for details.

Makeup artists and beauty junkies everywhere are rejoicing over the new NARS Pro Palette! You can now buy magnetic palettes (small or large) and cosmetics with magnetic backings. You can mix and match the colors, create palettes for different seasons (or clients), replace them when they run low, and even buy curated palettes. NARS sent me the large palette and let me choose my own colors to fill it up. As you can see, there’s space for a few more, and if I want to mix it up, I can create several smaller palettes.

NARS Pro Palette

The small palette ($14) is 7 1/20″ x 5 1/2″. The large palette ($18 for the empty palette – shown above) is 8 9/10″ x 6 4/5″. You can fill up the palette with: blush, highlighting blush, bronzing powder, contour blush, pressed powder, duo eyeshadows and single eyeshadows.

I chose the following to fill up my uber-palette!

Blush:

  • Mata Hari – pink with a trace of crimson
  • Sin – berry tone with gold shimmer
  • Sex Appeal – soft peach
  • Orgasm – a cult classic! peachy pink with a golden shimmer

Contour/Highlight:

  • Paloma – Rose and Ivory (for lighter skin tones)

Duo Eyeshadows:

  • Cordura – shimmering warm rich brown / shimmering dark brown
  • Kalahari – gold confection / sugared cocoa
  • Isolde – frosted ginger / shimmering copper
  • Alhambra – metallic rose mist / golden champagne

Single Eyeshadows:

  • Nepal – soft, sheer rose
  • Coconut Grove – deep brown (can be used as an eyeliner or eyeshadow)
  • Fathom – pink tulle with major shimmer
  • New York – plum brown

If you’re stuck and don’t know what to choose (there are LOTS of shades to choose from!), try one of the pro-artist pre-made palettes. There are some beautiful palettes from NARS makeup artists, Sadafumi Ito and Uzo. This is so exciting! Which shades would you pick?

I looked at this online. I even had some stuff in my cart. But I didn’t order anything after hemming and hawing because I knew that I really didn’t need anything since I have regular packaging on most items already. It is so pretty to look at though. Maybe one day… Stacie xo

I saw these on their website and was tempted. What material is the case made of? Does the magnetic base grip the metallic cosmetic pans firmly? Thanks!

It’s made out of plastic and has a vinyl-like texture on the exterior. I’d say the magnetic strength is medium.
