Making a difference–one lipstick at a time

Viva Glam I

As beauty junkies, do we really need a reason to buy another product? Absolutely!

With the creation of the first Viva Glam lipstick and the eponymous AIDS fund in 1994, M•A•C has demonstrated a desire to provide education and offer support to all people affected by HIV and AIDS across the globe.  Every cent of the sale price, or 100% of the retail profit, is donated to the charity–which has raised over $150 million.  Impressed?  I am, too; each lipstick costs about $14.50.

In honor of the company’s commitment to celebrate individuality, creativity and diversity, M•A•C has selected a different spokesperson for each of the successful Viva Glam ad campaigns–currently Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga.  Still, the choice of models has little to do with why I choose to support this cause; above and beyond the obvious, I happen to love the lipsticks.  My personal favorite (pictured above): Viva Glam I

I don’t wear dark shades that often, but when special occasions warrant, this gorgeous matte brick-red shade is the one I choose.  I like how it delivers maximum impact–without overwhelming the rest of my face.  The only other products I need to complement the look are powder and mascara.

Last–but certainly not least–let me assure you, dear readers, that M•A•C is cruelty-free (we recently had some questions regarding the company’s stance on the topic).  You’ll also find parent company Estée Lauder on the same Caring Consumer list.

Who says you can’t be a philanthropist and look good?
