“True Blood” Actress Kristin Bauer Urges Canadians to Leave Cosmetics Cruelty on the Shelf this Christmas

Star supports HSI’s #BeCrueltyFree campaign for cosmetics animal testing ban

“True Blood” actress and animal advocate, Kristin Bauer van Straten, is cruelty free – urging Canadians to take a stand against animal testing for cosmetics by buying cruelty-free this holiday season. Kristin is supporting Animal Alliance of Canada and Humane Society International’s #BeCrueltyFree campaign, calling for a nationwide ban on cruel cosmetics testing on live rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals. Kristin says put only bunny-friendly beauty brands on your list for Santa instead of cruel cosmetics.

Although banned across the European Union, Israel, Norway and India, animal testing of beauty products and their ingredients is still legal in Canada, and continues even though it’s not required by law. Thousands of animals globally suffer for the beauty industry. Terrified rabbits, mice, rats and guinea pigs have chemicals forced down their throats, dripped into their eyes or smeared onto their skin – all without any pain relief.

Kristin says: “We should all take a stand against animal testing for cosmetics because these animals are dying for our vanity and they can’t speak up for themselves. It’s shocking to know that this needless cruelty is happening right now in Canada. It has to stop. It’s time for Canada to #BeCrueltyFree.”

To prove that we can all have beauty without cruelty, Kristin has selected some of her favorite cruelty-free cosmetics in time for Christmas gift-giving season.

Kristin’s Cruelty-Free Product Picks:

  • Lippy Girl Lover Set – Vegocentric lipstick, Extra Virgin Lip Gloss, Sha-Zam Shimmer and Lip Lover Conditioner all wrapped up in a hot-pink clutch for $42
  • MIYU Hydrate Mi Beauty Essence – The freshness of a facial mist fused with the rich nutrients of a serum. Instant skin hydration courtesy of wild pansies, goji berries and mangosteen. $34
  • Neal’s Yard Remedies Hand Cream Collection – A deeply nourishing treat for your hands- a trio of skin-softening and protecting plant extracts, infused with aromatherapy essential oils – garden mint & bergamot, wild rose, and geranium & orange. $42
  • Cate McNabb Sugar Plum Gift Set – Natural eye-shadows in pink and plum, a hot red lipstick, golden shimmer lip gloss, and 100 percent synthetic brushes. $75
  • LUSH Cozy Christmas – Snuggle up with soothing Butterbear Bath Bomb, warming Hot Toddy shower gel, nourishing Sympathy for the Skin body lotion, softening Yog Nog soap and moisturizing Honey Trap lip balm. Pre-wrapped in festive fabric made from recycled plastic bottles! $38.95

Animal Alliance of Canada director Liz White, says: “Most Canadians oppose animal testing for cosmetics and want to see it banned. So by following Kristin’s cruelty-free Christmas Santa list, we can all ensure that our stockings are stuffed with gorgeous bunny-friendly beauty products instead of cosmetics cruelty. In 31 countries so far, cruel cosmetics are now banned from sale and such testing is also outlawed, so it’s a national disgrace that here in Canada it’s still permitted. Our #BeCrueltyFree Canada campaign is determined to change that.”

Kristin joins actress Emmanuelle Vaugier and TV’s Phoebe Dykstra in supporting #BeCrueltyFree Canada, and globally stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Leona Lewis and Owain Yeoman are also #BeCrueltyFree advocates.

Say “no” to cosmetics cruelty in Canada by signing the #BeCrueltyFree petition to the Government of Canada.
