Gregg and I went on a yoga retreat called Be Well at the Del at the historic Hotel del Coronado a couple of weekends ago. When we arrived, we were in awe of the beautiful beach, the beautiful Victorian lobby and the beautiful modern rooms. You probably can’t tell in the pic below but the private balconies in the garden-view rooms are HUGE – if I knew how to do a cartwheel, I would’ve done one and still had room to spare. The room was also huge and it was so nice to just sit and read in a clean room with no stinky dog and shedding cats around (yes, I missed them – but you know…). When I got back to my cramped apartment on Sunday, I wanted to go back to the Del immediately!
We started out with wonderful massages at the spa. The spa has male and female locker rooms with private hot tubs and wet saunas. There is a co-ed pool and a fire pit overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately, it was freezing and rainy the whole weekend, so we didn’t get to do a lot of outside activities.
We had a wine and cheese reception at the Eno Wine Bar and then an 8:00 am yoga class (I’m not usually awake that early). The yoga instructor, Luciana LoPresto was very kind to Gregg (this was his first yoga class EVER) and myself (hadn’t been to a class in a while).
We had lunch at Sheerwater and then met the group for dinner at 1500 Ocean, the Del’s signature restaurant.
There was a Body Pump workout class that day, but we missed it. Instead we went to yoga again the next morning and then to a delicious Vegas-worthy brunch in the giant Crown Room.
I already want to go back! Next time I’d like to stay in one of the Ocean-front cottages. It would be so soothing to hear the waves crashing while you drift off to sleep!
The Be Well at the Del yoga retreat package includes: two nights’ accommodation, two yoga classes tailored to all skill levels (led by acclaimed yoga instructor Luciana LoPresto), an ocean-inspired spa treatment, special fitness instruction and spa cuisine over the course of the weekend. They have no trouble accommodating various diets (veg, vegan, etc.).
Luciana LoPresto is the nationally-acclaimed founder of YogaTrips™, vacations centered around daily yoga practice to enhance one’s sense of culture and place. With more than 20 years’ experience teaching yoga, Luciana offers instruction that blends the vigorous Vinyasa style with the precision of Iyengar yoga. In addition to her classes, Luciana is also on hand throughout the weekend to provide personal yoga consultations.
