Do You Use Gluten-Free Cosmetics?

in Misc, Vegan on 06/04/12

Guest Post by: Tasha Dillon

These days many consumers have adopted healthy and cruelty free eating habits which include being vegan and gluten free. As a result, it also makes sense to use cosmetics that match this lifestyle.

Whether you have celiac allergies or have made a conscious choice to eat gluten free, it is a surprising fact that many lipsticks contain wheat! Several cosmetic companies have now responded to the ever increasing population of gluten free consumers and are making lipsticks without trace elements of wheat.

Brands that offer gluten free cosmetics include Bare Minerals, Gabriel Cosmetics and the spa-inspired ZuZu line. My favorite ZuZu blush, “Samba” is a peachy bronze with a hint of shimmer and completely gluten free!

Vegan cosmetics are now finally available and are also a hot trend! Some of my favorite vegan make up brands include – Tarte, Obsessive-Compulsive Cosmetics and Kiss my Face.

And don’t forget to use all synthetic, vegan cosmetic brushes for your application. Sonia Kushuk for Target makes fantastic, professional grade brushes that are 100% vegan.

Interested in vegan hair products? One of the best vegan hair care lines available is Purely Abba, which is all natural and will leave your hair healthy and manageable!

My favorite hip nail polish brand is SpaRitual which produces a gorgeous vegan spa collection with cool colors and accessories.

One of your best resources for vegan products is Sephora.com which has entire page dedicated to vegan and “green” cosmetics along with ratings and customer feedback!

With so many options, you can now be in style while still being healthy and cruelty free! FINALLY!

Be careful with Kiss My Face. Some of their products do contain beeswax.

Hi, I’m curious as to why being gluten-free goes hand in hand with being cruelty-free? From my understanding gluten is wheat-based. If you could shed some light on this, I’d appreciate it!

Mandy – gluten-free has nothing to do with being cruelty free! Some readers might be interested in cruelty free products that are also gluten-free.

I’m in on this late (just discovered the blog), but what products of Tarte are vegan? I wrote them and they indicated that they don’t really have vegan items.

Hi Danielle – I’m not sure which ones are vegan – do they list ingredients on the website?

I have recently become absolutely obsessed with Red Apple Lipstick’s gluten free and Vegan (among many other wonderful things) lipsticks and eyeshadows. The lipsticks have great color and are soo smooth and I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderfully pigmented the eyeshadows are! The company as a whole is great because they really interact with the customers. If you are interested in vegan and gluten free cosmetics check their website and facebook out!
