Lit Cosmetics Glitter

I was browsing Instagram when suddenly I got the GLITTER BUG! I saw someone’s post with some pretty purple glittery shadow, and I asked where she got it. She couldn’t remember the name but she thought it was from Lit Cosmetics. Well, as soon as I started browsing Lit Cosmetics’ Instagram, I was sold! I bought two glitters and one Lit Kit, and with the recent promotions, I got an extra glitter and liquid metal for free.

Lit Cosmetics is cruelty free and vegan. The glitter eyeshadow pigments are mineral-based and made without parabens, alcohol, propylene glycol, gluten or phthalates.

Lit Cosmetics Glitter Swatches

Left to right (pictured):

  • Oprah (size 4) – peachy copper
  • Addicted Gold Liquid Metal (Lip Kit) – yellow gold
  • Boogie Wonderland (size 2) – light purple with halo
  • Joy (size 3) – pink with copper and silver
  • Magnetic Gold Liquid Metal – silver chrome with gold

Glitter is hard to photograph, so definitely check out the Lit Cosmetics Instagram page to see some more swatches. I am not a glitter expert, but I learned a few things after buying these glitter pigments.

First – bigger is not always better. The larger sizes of glitter (like Oprah size 4) looks more like…well…actual glitter. The pieces are bigger, but that also makes them harder to work with. They don’t blend well and are best applied on top of similar colored eyeshadow. The bigger the glitter, the more uncomfortable it will be to wear – bigger pieces can be more irritating. Lit Cosmetics has “rounded glitter”, so this is definitely more wearable than traditional square glitter.

You need a glitter primer to get the glitter to stick. I bought the Lit Kit that comes with a liquid adhesive glitter base and small brush. NYX also has a glitter primer that would work well with these shades.

The Liquid Metals are easiest to apply (when using the glitter base), but I still found them a bit difficult to work with. You need at least two coats to keep it from looking watered down. And, if you use too much, you get lumps and bumps. Because it’s hard to make it look blended, I found it best to apply it as the last coat after my eyeshadow. And, it was easiest for me to apply all over the lids (up to the crease) or just in the center to highlight. They would make a good eyeliner too, but that brings me to my last point.

Remember that glitter gets everywhere! All over the counter, all over my face and hands – and it’s hard to get all of it off. If it gets in your lashes (which it probably will – especially if you use it as eyeliner), it’s hard to get out. And since I wear lash extensions, I found it really hard to scrub out at the end of the night.

I wore the Addicted Gold Liquid Metal for a night out recently and received compliments, but I really need to experiment more and watch some tutorials, because glitter can be tricky!
