Four Ways To Look Your Best During Winter

Winterize Your Skin

Winter Season can wreck havoc on all skin types if we don’t have a plan of action in place. Is it just me, or do we all just want to curl up in front of a warm fire and hide in our fuzzy socks until its over? Dry, tight, itchy skin doesn’t make anyone feel holiday party ready, but with these simple tips you’ll be ready to hit the town and see those in town friends with glowing, gorgeous skin.

Moisturize.

Cranking up the heat inside while it’s cold outside zaps our skin of precious moisture it needs. If you have a moisturizer you rely on during the rest of the year you may want to look into something with a little more heft for the winter months. Thicker creams or laying with an oil can help keep the skin supple. Just make sure to choose one that’s appropriate for face and body- they usually aren’t the same. Oils like avocado, primrose or almond oil are considered non pore-clogging and can be used on the face for extra moisture. You may also look for a body cream that includes humectants like vegetable glycerin or hyaluronic acid to attract moisture to the skin.

Exfoliate.

Skipping exfoliation can create lackluster skin. It looks dry, and with time, won’t allow skincare products to absorb and do the work they are supposed to do. While the amount of exfoliation for each person varies, we all need to slough off those dead skin cells so gorgeous new skin underneath can shine through. Exfoliation can be done by dry brushing (before a shower), or in the bath with a yummy sugar scrub.  A lotion with AHA’s can also help the process move along a little faster for areas that need a little TLC. Gentle facial exfoliation will also help those serums penetrate the skin better and do their job.

Continue with beauty treatments.

Skipping your daily SPF, or eye cream are big no-no’s during the winter months. The sun can still cause damage, and the delicate skin around your eyes can begin to show fine wrinkles from dry, cold air. Treatments for hyperpigmentation should be focused on during the winter months when you have time to repair that summer sun damage. Be sure to keep your regimen up to date to keep facial features glowing, and moisturized.

Enhance.

If you want to minimize your beauty routine during the winter months, choose one area you want to feature. Perhaps it is your eyes with simple eye makeup like mascara, or keeping that kisser supple and glossy. Long-wearing lip gloss will tend to keep lips moisturized longer than a staining lipstick, and waterproof mascara only on the top lashes can keep smudgy eyes due to wind or sleet at bay.

All of these tips can easily be followed while spending a minimal amount at the drugstore or even making some products at home. What winter beauty tips have worked for you?
