Does Dream Water Really Work?

in Misc, Vegan on 11/20/12

Dream Water

I’m one of those people who CANNOT function without at least 8 hours of beauty sleep. I’ve always been that way. If I party too hard or stay up late for an event, there’s no way I’m getting up in the morning. Luckily, I don’t “party” so much these days!

But, I do work too much. It’s true. I don’t ever “turn off” (the computer or my brain) and that’s clearly not the healthiest habit. I have a blog and a social media/PR agency to run – and I have not yet figured out a way to clone myself. But, luckily, I can stop stressing about work that needs to be done and get to sleep every night with the help of melatonin. I take 10 mgs pretty much every night, and it helps me to get some much-needed shut-eye.

I was recently sent samples of Dream Water to check out. I was told that there are no animal ingredients, so I agreed to try it out. I wasn’t expecting much in such a small shot since I take a pretty high dose of melatonin every night. Boy – was I surprised! It had me (and my boyfriend who has his own sleeping issues) OUT – and quickly too!

Dream Water

Dream Water has melatonin, GABA and 5HTP to help you get to sleep fast and have good quality sleep. That’s something you won’t get from Nyquil or most over the counter sleep aids.

Melatonin is a natural hormone that your body makes when it is dark out (that’s why people who work at night often have a hard time adjusting – same thing for jet lag). It also allows your body to go through all of the normal sleep cycles. Some of the OTC sleep aids put you in an unnatural state of sleep that skips over some of the sleep cycles, meaning you won’t wake up feeling refreshed.

GABA is a chemical made in the brain that helps relieve anxiety, improve mood and helps with PMS! It’s an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which means it stops your stressed out nerve cells from over-firing, and allows you to chill out.

5HTP is a byproduct of amino acid, L-Tryptophan (the same chemical that makes people sleepy after eating turkey), that increases the production of serotonin in your brain. This improves your mood and makes you sleepy. 5HTP is often used for minor depression as well. If you’re taking antidepressants, you may want to check with your doctor before taking 5HTP supplements.

So does Dream Water work? Well, it does for me and my boyfriend. And it seems to work faster than my usual dose of melatonin. I would definitely recommend this product – especially when traveling or when you just need a good night’s sleep. But, as always, check with your doctor first!

This sounds interesting, I wouldn’t mind giving it a try. I’ve never heard of it before.

Orally taken GABA is incapable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, and the L-5-HTP was not found in a lab analysis indicating decomposition in Dream Water. That leaves only melatonin.

Having said that, it worked well for me although it gave me a very strange feeling.

However, your wallet is better off with a big dose of melatonin since you won’t see the benefit of the other 2 supposedly “active” ingredients!
