DIY Cleansing Mist

in Body, Budget, Skin on 03/28/12

Guest Post by Nadege Ngomsi

Spring is on the rise and everyone is searching for better methods to cool down! Here is a simple DIY cleansing mist that will cool you down and provide awesome anti-aging skin benefits!

What you’ll need:

White Tea (White tea improves the function of skin cells and protects you from harmful UV rays. White tea is also an amazing anti-aging agent! It fights the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which prevents sagging of the skin.)

White Tea

I chose cucumber with my white tea because it has so many skin benefits! Cucumbers improve your complexion and help treat sunburns, which can be essential during the hot weather.

Lemon Zest (filled with antioxidants and cancer-fighting ingredients, and smells amazing!)

Lemon Zest

A Bowl of Hot Water

Hot water

The Procedure:
Before you begin, boil a pot of water. I like to get it as hot as possible. In the meantime…

Zest a whole lemon

When the water finished boiling and the pot has cooled a bit, pour the water into a bowl.

Insert about 4 tea packets into the bowl and let it steep for about 10 minutes. At the 3-minute mark, add the lemon zest.

Steeping the tea

You will notice the wonderful smell of tea and lemon filling up the room 🙂

After about 10 minutes, grab a colander and strain the tea and lemon zest. It is preferable that you use a tightly woven colander so you can grab all the zest from the lemons.

Strain the water

After, place it in the same bowl or a new bowl. I placed it in a white bowl so you can see the effects of the white tea and lemon. Let the tea/lemon water cool a little.

Next, find an empty aluminum spray bottle. I purchased my 8 oz. bottle from FNWL. Aluminum works best, because sun exposure to the bottle can damage the contents. Be careful, though, when something is too hot or too cold, you will feel the effects of the aluminum bottle when you touch it.

Grab a funnel and pour its contents into the bottle. The bottle will feel warm. Spray in the air to ensure the spray bottle works.

Aluminum Spray Bottle

Stick the bottle in the refrigerator and wait about an hour or so. When you take it out, it will feel cold, which is perfect for sticking in your beach bag or on the go for those hot days! The smell is absolutely amazing and with each spray, you will smell the zesty lemon! I grab this mist all the time! My skin feels amazing after I use it and I cannot get enough of that scent! Enjoy!

If I wear makeup and would like to spritz this on my face, wouldn't my makeup melt or get removed because of the liquid?

It would be fine if you're using a bottle with a fine mist. 🙂
