Cruelty Free Powder for Dark Skin Tones and Pale Skin Tones!
Pop Beauty sent me all eight shades of their cruelty free Velvet Powder Base, and I have to say, I was impressed with the range of tones! Usually with powders, you get a light, medium and dark (if you’re lucky) and usually the dark is only for medium-tan skin. So this Pop Beauty collection is great news for my girls out there with tan to dark skin!
The Pop Beauty Velvet Powder Base can be used as a foundation or setting powder. Most of the colors tend to run slightly warm, which I don’t mind in a powder because a touch of yellow can actually brighten up your face and hide dark circles and spots. It comes in eight shades:
- No 1 Fair
- No 2 Creme
- No 3 Amber
- No 4 Au Lait
- No 5 Toffee
- No 6 Cinnamon
- No 7 Mocha
- No 8 Cocoa
The powder is hypoallergenic, oil-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free and vegan. The formula is super fine and has a silk-like finish. It covers my pores well and doesn’t look chalky or heavy – even with a heavy application. It does contain talc – just a note in case you’re avoiding that ingredient for any reason. I have heard that talc can cause camera flash back, but I took some test shots, and didn’t experience that with these.
The coverage is buildable, so a light hand gives you a nice setting powder and a couple of heavier coats gives you a medium-coverage foundation. Use a large fluffy brush to get a light coat for setting, a medium densely-packed brush for fuller coverage, and a small very-dense brush for going over blemishes and dark spots (maximum coverage).
You can find these at stores like Walgreens, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Ricky’s, or online at www.popbeauty.com.
Re: Pop Beauty Velvet Powder Base. I love powder app base but shy away because of settling in fine lines. How did this product fare, Jen?
Hi Lisa – I didn’t have any issues with that. The powder is smooth and velvety (hence the name – haha!) and sits on top of the skin instead of settling into it.
