UPDATE (12/15/14): It appears that Schick is no longer cruelty free. Schick is owned by Energizer who “tests where required by law”. This may mean that Schick is not cruelty free. This is their response to my questions:

We always obtain test data without the use of animal testing whenever possible. Sometime in the future, the government may require data for which there is no reliable agency approved alternative. Though this has not happened recently, it potentially could and in these rare circumstances, such animal tests would become unavoidable.
We understand and share your concern for the use of animals in product safety testing and will continue to raise this issue with the Federal Regulatory Agencies to help eliminate their requirements for animal testing whenever possible. Thank you for contacting us regarding this subject. It is our hope that animal testing alternatives be validated and accepted by the Federal Government and the scientific community, more quickly. When they are, we will use them.
While we continually evaluate alternatives to animal-derived ingredients where possible, currently our Hydro Shave Gel contains stearic acid which is animally-derived. However, the palmitic acid in our Hydro shave gels is derived from vegetables.”

Everyone needs to buy razors (well, unless you spend a lot of time at laser hair removal centers). For a long time, I honestly wasn’t sure which razor brands were considered cruelty free. I assumed they were all owned by big brands that test on animals (like P&G). Well, I was wrong! Schick razors are cruelty free and not tested on animals!
I recently tried the Schick Intuition Naturals Sensitive Care razor. It has four blades and a “skin conditioning solid” which basically means you don’t need to use shaving gel, soap or cream with it. The skin conditioner has Vitamin E and aloe to soothe skin and prevent nicks. It lathers up a little and it’s clear, so you can see where you’re shaving.
I think it’s perfect for legs (or arms if you shave those), but because the head is so big, it’s a little tricky to get a precise shave for underarms and bikini. It’s great to use all over when you’re in a hurry – you can skip the lathering step and just go for it.
Schick has also come out with a more Earth-friendly package design. The former all-plastic package is now made with recycled paperboard, recycled plastic window and VOC-free inks. The whole shebang is also recyclable.
For those trickier areas, I prefer the Schick Quattro Trimstyle. This razor is one of those “why didn’t we have this already?” kind of products. It has a regular Schick razor on one end and a trimmer on the other (for that um…landing strip…or whatever you have going on down there). Guys can (and should) use it (or the Men’s Quattro razors) too. No one wants to see a jungle down there! 😉

how do you know schick are not testing on animals? or energizer -who owns it- for that matter? it doesnt say anything about animal testing on their website and PETA says schick does test on animals

The Schick rep submitted a statement saying they were 100% cruelty free. If you find out that's not true, please email me at jen at mybeautybunny dot com
Only problem with buying Schick is that the money goes directly into pockets of Wilkson Sword/ Energizer who own Schick – and who DO do animal testing. We have to be careful to research who owns what companies and where the money ultimately goes. That's why I no longer buy Body Shop; because it belongs to L'Oreal.
We believe that supporting animal-friendly companies goes a long way toward the eventual elimination of animal testing. If the parent companies see the successes of their brands who do not test, it's a win. It's also a win for the animal-friendly companies to get larger distribution in mass channels by being involved with huge companies. That's our personal opinion here at My Beauty Bunny and we invite you to make up your own mind on the matter!
what is your opinion on the whole ordeal with estee lauder? Would you still buy MAC products even though you know that those exact MAC products were being tested on animals for a different market? Do you think its a different situation here?

This information is not accurate. Schick and their parents companies are not found on ANY cruelty-free lists, which means that at some point during their manufacturing process some aspect is tested in animals.
I’m so confused! I used to have an Intuition razor but when I somehow lost the handle I decided to look for a cruelty free alternative- so is it or is it not? And if it’s not, then which razor IS cruelty free? I tried to search online but all I found were cruelty free shaving creams, nothing about razors 🙁
UPDATE: there seems to be some confusion over Shick’s cruelty free status. Schick is owned by Energizer and all of my communications and research show that they DO NOT test on animals. If you have definitive proof that this is not the case, please let me know. – Jen

Since going vegan a year ago today, I’ve been researching everything I use. I just checked into my Schick Slim Twin S2’s by writing to Schick. They may not test on animals, but there is lanolin in the strip. Lanolin is made from Sheep’s wool, so I don’t consider my favorite razors cruelty-free. Now I will be trying to find something I like as well as the razors I’ve been using for a couple of decades.

For those who want to avoid brands that are owned by companies that test on animals, I suggest Preserve razors! Decent quality and 100% cruelty-free.
Energizer has a cruelty-free claim, however they don’t mention anything about ingredients. While Schick only makes razors (so there’s no need for animal testing), they also own brands like Skintimate and Hawaiian Tropic. This is Hawaiian Tropic’s cruelty-free claim. It’s ambiguous and you can draw your own conclusions:
“Consumers’ comments and concerns are most important to us, and we are pleased to advise you that our sun care products are not, and have never been, tested on animals. We can only confirm this for our company and our sister-product, Banana Boat Sun Care. Our testing involves groups of paid volunteers to use and test the products under the supervision of independent laboratories. In addition, the laboratory analysis that is done uses the in-vitro method of testing.”

Your information on Schick razors is wrong, they sell their razors in China. If you go to the sight (http://www.schick.com/schick-women) and look at the top right there’s a drop down box where you can select a range of different counties, China is the forth from the top. Unless you’ve got proof from them that they don’t sell in Chinese stores you should really take them off the list to be safe. I’m not going to risk buying their products until I know for sure that they don’t sell in China.
Products can be vegan and still sold in China or owned by an animal testing parent company.
Just found their animal testing policy which states they do test on animals when required by law. If you’re going to leave them on your site as vegan than you should warn people that their is third party testing.

I just purchased a Halo Razor and sadly it says it is now also part of Energizer! Therefore, they are not truly CF. Just wanted to let you know.
