Tom’s of Maine is one of the originals of the cruelty free, all-natural, and vegetarian world of personal products. I’m pretty sure they need no introduction, but just in case: Tom’s of Maine was founded in 1970 to provide personal care products that were free of chemicals and animal testing. This was a really new idea at the time! Toothpastes and deodorants that were good for the environment AND the customers’ health? This is where it all began.
While they were once best known for their dental care, Tom’s now also offers body care, baby care, and lip care. I’ve tried them all, all with great success. They make up a large part of my morning routine.
Simply White Toothpaste: This is the only whitening toothpaste to earn the American Dental Association’s Seal of Approval. It uses silicas as opposed to harsh chemicals or bleaches. As for the other ingredients, each is listed on the website along with its purpose and source. Hurray for transparency!
I love this toothpaste, because I always want my teeth to look sparkling white. I also love their other toothpastes and mouthwashes. Like any major brand, Tom’s offers a formula for every need: sensitive, children’s, enamel strengthening, and toddler training. Most of them are also available in fluoride-free.
Anti-Plaque Flat Floss: In some ways, yes, floss is just floss. As long as it’s waxed, we’re good. But I much prefer to buy from a brand like Tom’s: even though dental floss can’t necessarily be tested on animals, I really like knowing that my money isn’t supporting a company that in turn supports testing elsewhere. (Please note, while many Tom’s products are vegan, this one contains beeswax.)
Long Lasting Deodorant and Naturally Dry Anti-Perspirant: Let’s clarify here. “Deodorant” is a product that will stop you from smelling. It will NOT stop you from sweating. “Anti-perspirant,” as the name suggests, will prevent you from sweating and getting wet and sticky. People often confuse the two.
For me, I always prefer an anti-perspirant. This one by Tom’s is the *first* I’ve found that is cruelty free, vegan, and still uses the right ingredients to get the job done. These ingredients usually come from aluminum, and they are what really keeps you from sweating. And it is powerful stuff!! I know the packaging and branding might lead you to think it’s for women, but there is also an unscented version available that the men in my life have come to love.
However, many people don’t want to use aluminum on their bodies. For you, Tom’s of Maine offers its long-standing line of natural deodorants. The Long Lasting one shown in the picture is definitely long lasting – but remember, it is only to keep you from smelling, not from sweating.
