Have you guys taken any time to relax lately? I know I’m not the only one feeling stressed these days. With my blog writing and social media posting to do, social media agency to run, pets to take to the vet, fiance to entertain (we really need more date nights!), gym to visit, house to clean, and endless errands to run, it seems like I rarely get time just for me. I know that taking care of myself is very important, so I’ve been trying to set aside more “me time” to just chill!
While I was getting groceries at the Pavilions near my house, I picked up some magazines with the intent of making more time for myself. I picked up the August People magazine (with the amazing US Olympian winners on the cover!), the September issues of InStyle and StyleWatch (since September is like the Super Bowl for fashion magazines – I wanted to grab these to keep up with the latest in beauty and fashion).
Sometimes, I just need to treat myself with a magazine and an unhealthy-but-totally-worth-the-calories snack! What’s more fun than chilling with some iced coffee, a sugary snack and the latest copy of StyleWatch? I feel like I’m pretty in tune with beauty trends, but there’s always something new for me to learn. And I like to see how makeup artists in the industry are creating new editorial looks on celebs and models. I spend a lot of time on Instagram, and I find it really disturbing that everyone is starting to look the same. Embrace the trends that work for you, but don’t become a cookie cutter copy of someone else! End rant.
Every now and then, I love to sleep in on a Saturday morning and then lounge in bed with my headphones and a magazine. There’s something very relaxing for me about reading an actual paper magazine. Since I am a blogger and social media manager, I’m ALWAYS on my phone or laptop, and it’s nice to take a break from the screens for a while. Can we talk about how gorgeous Kerry Washington’s hair and makeup are on the cover of InStyle this month?
Coffee shops are great for “me time” too. I live in the city and I have no yard (boo!) but I do have access to tons of nice cafes and coffee shops. I’m a city girl at heart, so I like to hang out and be around people but still be on my own if you know what I mean.
One of the few times I am forced to be away from my phone is while I’m traveling – either in a place with no Wi-Fi or on a plane. It’s actually very therapeutic. I have to take a break from my phone addiction (whether I like it or not) and as a result, I can relax! Imagine that! When I’m headed to the airport, I always stop by Pavilions and grab my favorite magazines (People magazine is one of my in-flight faves), so I can pop in my headphones, grab a diet soda and a snack, and enjoy my “me time!”
If this has inspired you to get some more “me time”, let me know! I’d love to hear about what you plan to do to reduce stress and take care of yourself. Tell me in the comments below! And if you want to pick up some magazines to read, you can visit your local participating SafewayJewel-Osco Vons Pavilions Tom Thumb Randall’s Shaw’s Carr’s or Acme Market and get $1 off PEOPLE®, InStyle®, StyleWatch® or Sunset® magazine through Just for U or MyMixx, while supplies last through 10/18/16!
