supplements for hair skin nails

Boosting beauty from the inside out is certainly a sure fire way to reap the benefits of great skin, hair and nails. What we put into our body is just as important, if not more so than what we use to treat topically on a daily basis. Though I prefer to get the majority of my daily dosage of vitamins through consuming fresh fruits and veggies, supplementation is a perfect fix for any gal on the go who’s in need of a boost in their beauty routine.

Here are just a few of the many wonderful supplement/vitamins making strides in the wellness industry and in my own beauty regimen as of late:

MSM: A daily staple for me, MSM is something I have been taking for years to not only support healthy joints but to also aide in hair growth, skin health and strengthen my nails. So, what is it exactly? Simply a nutritional form of sulfur that softens dry skin, wrinkles and even scar tissue. It also ensures connective tissue health and the formation of collagen. An organic sulfur compound, MSM is found in many of our fruits and vegetables.

BIOTIN (also known as Vitamin H): An essential supplement to many who are lusting after long, luxurious and healthy locks, Biotin is proven to aide in the prevention of hair loss and promote growth in the anagen phase. The supplement also protects hair against dryness by being involved in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fats. Lack of biotin has been shown to be one of the leading causes in hair loss for both men and women.

OMEGAS: Omegas aren’t just for proper heart health, as this wonder supplement aides in healing dry skin, psoriasis and eczema in addition to promoting a healthy, youthful glow. These healthy fats are a key component of the lubricating layer that keeps skin supple, preventing future wrinkles and hollowing of the skin. Another fun fact? In a recent study, participants showed less sensitivity to UV rays after taking an omega supplement…great news for those that love to soak up the sun.

B-COMPLEX: Or as my husband and I like to call it, the “happy” pill, due to it’s abilities to improve mood and overall alertness. The complex is a family of water-soluble vitamins that includes vitamins B-1, B-2, B-3, B-5, B-6, B-12 and folic acid. A daily B-Complex supplement works to counteract damage caused by free radicals in addition to fending off gray hair and restoring natural hair color. This supplement also may contain Biotin, be sure to read the label on the package to be sure.

ALA (Alppa Lipoic Acid): Vital for cell energy production, ALA protects against free radicals and is considered one of the most powerful and beneficial anti-inflammatory antioxidants to fight aging and weight problems by aiding cellular metabolism. ALA’s ability to regenerate skin is remarkable, leading it to be one of the most powerful and popular supplements in recent years.

GREEN VIBRANCE: Not only does this power packed powder (trying saying that one 5x fast!) provide several beneficial vitamins and nutrients needed to support a healthy life, it also includes many forms of the supplements I’ve listed above in addition to crucial skincare saviors such as spirulina and chlorella. The powder also builds resistance to oxidative changes associated with aging. (Editor’s Note: you can find Green Vibrance online.)

I must note, that I did not include recommended dosage in this post, as I am not a licensed health practitioner. For dosage information, please speak with your local health provider.

I haven’t heard of MSM before? Do you take it as a supplement by itself or is it found in a multi vitamin? Thanks so much for this list, makes it much easier to put it all together 🙂

I haven’t heard of MSM too. What kinds of fruits and vegetables contain this element? I usually prefer organic foods instead of taking supplements. I believe that is is safer and effective.
