For most of my life, my skincare routine was… well, nonexistent. Too much sun, barely any moisturizer, and forgetting to change pillowcases—yep, I’ve been there. 😛
But everything changed recently! One day, I casually mentioned to my husband how nice it would be to have a proper skincare routine. His response? “Just go for it!” (in the sweetest way possible, of course 😂).
So, I visited The Body Shop (not sponsored!) and slowly built a routine over a few months. Unlike past attempts, this time it stuck—and here’s what kept me going.
12 Skincare Tips That Actually Work
1. Stay Inspired
At first, I relied on excitement alone, but watching skincare influencers on TikTok and Instagram kept me motivated. Surrounding yourself with people who inspire you (online or offline) makes a huge difference!

2. Pat, Don’t Rub
Gently patting products into your skin helps absorption way better than rubbing. After applying, just tap it in lightly. 🙂
3. Toner is a Game-Changer
Seriously, don’t skip toner! Here’s why it’s amazing:
- Helps other products absorb better
- Balances your skin’s pH
- Minimizes pores 🤯
- Deep cleanses and hydrates
My favorite benefit? It preps your skin to soak up all the goodness from serums and moisturizers. Here’s the one I use. 🙂
4. Patience is Key (3 Months!)
We’ve all been tempted to quit when results don’t show up fast. But skincare takes time—about 3 months for real changes. Mark your calendar and trust the process!
5. Can You Overdo It?
Some experts say too many products make it hard to tell what’s working. But personally? I love layering them! As long as ingredients are good, why not? My skin felt softer, and my husband noticed too. 😂 Try what works for you!
6. Skip Pore Strips—Try This Instead
Pore strips give instant (grossly satisfying) results, but they can irritate skin. A gentler option? A pore-clearing stick. Use it daily, and in weeks, your pores will thank you. This is my go-to. 🙂
7. Exfoliate for Glowing Skin

8. Patch Test Everything!
Learned this the hard way: Always test new products! A Taiwan sheet mask once blistered my skin—yikes. Now, I dab a bit on my neck first to check for reactions.
9. Pimple Patches > Popping
As a former pimple-popper, I swear by acne patches. Stick one on overnight, and it sucks out gunk while reducing redness. These are my favorites.
10. Don’t Stress Over Cleansers
Cleansers sit on your skin for seconds—don’t obsess over “miracle” ingredients. Save the effort for treatments that stay longer (like masks!).
11. Use Every Drop of Sheet Mask Essence
After removing a sheet mask, squeeze out the leftover serum—it’s packed with nutrients! No waste, just extra glow. These are my beloved Taiwan masks. ❤️
12. Sunscreen: More is Better
Sun damage ages skin fast. When in doubt, apply extra sunscreen—your future self will appreciate it. 😉
