Beauty: Top 10 Uses for Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is naturally high in a class of fats called medium chain triglycerides. This class of fats does good things for the body and can be used directly by the body without breaking it down. This means that when you use coconut oil topically, your body absorbs it and puts it to use, no digestion required. It is both antimicrobial and antifungal, so it is not just a great beauty aid, it’s a great health aid.

For beauty enhancement, it can be used for:

1. Moisturizing
Not only will it help keep hands from drying out, it is very soothing if you are healing from having dry, cracked skin. It also works great for moisturizing dry skin generally and is gentle enough to use on the most delicate tissues.

2. Adding shine
Whether you want to highlight your cheeks or add a bit of a shine to your hair, a little dab can save the day. Be sure to not overdo it.

3. Shaving
Compared to commercial shaving cream it is inexpensive, environmentally friendly and good for your skin. It also helps keep your razor clean and rust free. You can’t get any better than that.

4. Deep conditioning
Whether you use it in a hot shower for your hair or overnight for your face, coconut oil works well for deep conditioning. Unlike most chemical beauty products, it does so by improving the health of your hair and skin. This is the win/win way to get the looks you want.

5. Make-up removal
You can use it to remove all of your make-up, even waterproof mascara. Unlike some make-up removal products, you don’t need to worry about what it is doing to your skin. Rest assured, it is doing fabulous things for it.

6. Softening cuticles
Dab a bit onto your cuticles once or twice a day for the best cuticles you ever had. As long as you don’t overdo it, there is no need to wipe it off. Just rub it in.

7. Lip balm
In cold, windy weather, this is the tastiest lip balm you will ever use. It also works as a lip gloss.

8. Preventing wrinkles
Keeping skin hydrated is the best way to avoid wrinkles. Use it on problem areas like around the eyes to grow old gracefully.

9. Treating acne
Use it topically on acne outbreaks. It’s antimicrobial properties will help them clear up faster, no prescription drugs required.

10. Fading age spots
Used topically, it can help fade age spots.

This is one of the most versatile, healthy beauty products you can have on hand. If you want to keep it conveniently in oil form, just store in a warm (not hot) place. Do you have any other coconut oil tips? Let us know in the comments below!

    Great post Jen.

Coconut oil is one of the most useful oils out there. Another thing it is very useful for is, you can add it to your food due to the high MCT content in it i.e. the good type of fat.

When using it for deep conditioning, you can heat the oil just a little bit which further enhances the penetrative nature of coconut oil and is absorbed better by your hair.

It’s amazing how many uses there are for coconut oil. I wonder if there are any other oils or products with as many beauty benefits. I’ve purchased some coconut oil but put in the pantry instead of my vanity and haven’t actually used it. Thanks for these ideas. Stacie xo

I use it for oil pulling…. Swish a tablespoon of coconut oil in mouth on an empty stomach for 20 minutes and it draws out toxins and improves oral health. It makes your teeth feel super clean.
